Monster. Oh, how that word hit home. His entire body tensed, and though he desperately told himself to calm down, a part of him just would not. Shakily he breathed in and out, concentrating solely on her lips that were now barely a centimeter away from his.“Milena…. Milena, Milena, I would never dream of hurting you in any possible way. You are far too precious to me… And I believe that if I ever were to raise a hand against you, I would regret it for the entirety of my life.”
Reluctantly he pushed himself away from the Czech woman, turning so his back was to her. He paced back and forth for a moment, and after clearing his head (enough, at least), he faced her once more.
“I am sorry that I frightened you before… It is the reason I do not tell anyone about my past. Though I must admit, telling someone about it has taken…. much off my chest, if that is the correct saying. I am just afraid that… you may be wrong in the end. What if I am not a good person? What if I really am just a terrible monster? I quite feel like it sometimes, even now! What if I… end up disappointing you?”
Far too precious to him? She gulped silently, not sure what to make of his words. She never thought anyone would consider her precious to them, or at least say it in such a manner. But she knew her previous words had hit him, her eyes watching his pacing figure. Her mind kept flashing to the night on the roof, when they had revealed their secrets to each other…meeting his eyes now, she did her best to be unfazed.
“Felek…” Milena reached out and grasped his hands, squeezing them with her own. “Hush now, I don’t vant to hear any of this nonsense. It’s human to fear, to dread…” The Czech’s hands then went to cup his face, pressing her forehead against his as she looked into his eyes, almost pleading with her own as she whispered with a nearly desperate tone. “You are only a terrible monster if you allow yourself to be. You regret, you have remorse…you are no monster, Felek. You…you have not disappointed me, and I cannot see how you vould unless you became vhat you vere again. Vhich….vhich vill not happen, right?”
The man struggled to keep eye contact with her, as he just wanted to squeeze his eyes shut and hold her tightly. What a woman she was, seeing past everything that had always deterred people away from him. “Unique” was an understatement, he mentally decided.
“No…. No, I never wish to go back to that… that horrific nightmare of a life. I refuse to do so,” he whispered, squeezing her hands back almost encouragingly. Still, though, there were always those little sadistic thoughts in the back of his head that would not leave despite his words. He supposed they would never go away, considering most of his life was consumed in them, but…. If Milena knew? He wasn’t sure what she would think. The blonde kept it to himself.
“…. This may seem… out of the blue?, but I am determined to get us out of here. Perhaps not now, but I will. I will.”
Perhaps it was the urge to quiet him or some other carnal desire, but she drew him into another kiss—heated, passionate—before breaking only to whisper against his lips, hands caressing his face. “Felek, you vill only get yourself killed.” It was true enough. With their position, they knew too much about the inner workings of the mob. That was the main reason she and Emil could not leave before—and just the thought of leaving was enough to anger the boss. No one could be trusted.
“Unless ve can figure out a proper vay, a vay that vould destroy the mob entirely….there is no getting out.” She shook her head, hands now going down to his chest as her fingers curled into his shirt. “They do not treat those who vant to leave kindly, take it from somev’one who has been there before. I…I do not vant others to have to go through anything I have already experienced. I vas perhaps unlucky to not get shot dead on the spot.”
“Admire? Hah, really? Well, I guess a thanks is in order.. Though I am sure many others would think it foolish of me to be as honest as I am,” the Pole laughed, pulling away and gazing at her with a half-smile.“Děkuji, Milena. You actually make me feel as if I am a better man.” And he leaned forward to press a small kiss on her forehead. A hand glided up her torso and cupped her face once more, and for a moment, his smile faltered. “I…. mm. I am glad that I do not frighten you much, and that I can make life here a bit more…. well, let us just say not as bad, hm? It is not a feeling I am used to.”
“Foolish, maybe…but honesty is a rare thing to find these days and it’s certainly somethin’ to hold onto.” She huffed, looking up at him as his eyes again were visible, her neck feeling slightly cool now with the absence of his warmth. She exhaled softly as his hand cupped her face again, leaning her head against it as she searched his green hues, her voice soft.
“I vill admit I vas…rather frightened, after our ‘talk’, at least at first…but there is something about you that makes me believe you are not…” She paused, tracing a finger down his jawline before whispering on his lips. “. . A monster. I am no idiot but curiosity causes me to draw myself tovards danger, and perhaps I am doing such by being like this vith you…but I know, that you are a better man at heart.” She sighed, her lips brushing his as she spoke, eyes flickering shut. “…You have helped make it not as bad, yes.”

She mentally frowned as he pushed her away again, just as they were getting into it. Milena opened her eyes once more, gazing into his as she tried to read his expression, peer into his mind and figure out what he was thinking—this man, his mind was a maze, and she was determined in solving it.“…Not vhen I—?” She asked, curious as to what his next words were going to be. She sighed softly when his head came down to rest on her shoulder, though she felt a slight shiver from the kisses, letting out a shuddering breath. Pressing her cheek against the side of his head, she let her breath tingle at his ear as she spoke in barely above a whisper. “…A thank you for being genuine vith me. I’m used to receiving flattery, compliments..but it’s alvays just to whisk me off into bed or an office. You are v’one of the very few who seem to see me as a person before a toy.”
“They are missing out,” he murmured, his eyes fluttering shut, “You are a bright? young woman and a good friend. A shame that many men cannot look past appearances…” He mentally rolled his eyes. “We are all very selfish..”
Nevertheless, though, Felek couldn’t help but feel a bit smug— or at least superior, that he was viewed differently than the barbarians that lived in the dreaded mansion as well. Were they all only interested in getting under this woman’s dress? He almost snorted in disgust. Another reason to hate the worldly population. Selfish, selfish, selfish.
“Well.. either way, though, you do not have to thank me. It is easier to be myself around you, so I only feel that I should be honest with my words. So I should be the one thanking you, yes? I promise, though, there are no… ulterior motives? behind anything I say. Really.”
“…. Oh, I’m rambling! My apologies.”
She hummed lowly, unable to hold back a small chuckle at his words. Missing out? Selfish? She wanted to respond that they probably weren’t missing out on much—after all, as long as they had something that pleased their eye, what more did they want? Shallow, perhaps, was a more accurate word for the lot of them. Yet her position caused her to live such a life, and there was nothing she could do about it.
“Baby, I already figured there were no ulterior motives. Not from the vay you are…vell, then again, you’re no typical man either, but I suppose I know…vell enough who you are by now.” Her voice had become lower as she spoke, making it quite obvious to just what she was referring to. “You are different and I appreciate that…and I’m glad you can feel more comfortable around me.”
She bit her lip, trying to choose her words wisely before she continued. “You, Emil, Stovan, and perhaps Doru…perhaps some of the more respectable men I’ve met in all my years under this damn mafia of sorts. Despite the past, I…vell, you’re an honest man, Felek. I admire that, especially in this day and age.”
“Admire? Hah, really? Well, I guess a thanks is in order.. Though I am sure many others would think it foolish of me to be as honest as I am,” the Pole laughed, pulling away and gazing at her with a half-smile.

She could feel the heat radiating off of his cheeks, and she couldn’t help but feel a bit smug. The man always came off as so distant and arrogant, but around her it seemed he let down his defenses—to which she had no complaint against. Milena pressed her body up against his, pushing him gently against the wall. Her arms snaked to around his neck, fingers digging into his golden locks as she returned the kiss passionately. At the bite, she let out a small moan, her own teeth trying to graze against his skin. The Czech laughed against his lips—a devilish giggle, almost. “Vhat’s all vhat for, hm~?” She spoke almost breathlessly, her tongue lashing at his lips before managing to respond in gasps and between locked lips. “Just…take it as…a thank you.“
For the second time now, the Pole gently pushed her away, but only enough so they could look at each other eye-to-eye. Her warm breath tickled his lips, and though a part of him screamed at him for stopping the kiss, he knew not to get ahead oh himself.
“Milena… A thank you for what? I am very curious, as I have done practically nothing… Plus…” Felek looked away for a moment, unsure of how to explain in English. “… I am not sure if I can do this right now. Not when you..” He shook his head, not finishing his sentence.
Hands sliding back down to her waist, the blonde reluctantly laid his head on the woman’s shoulder, his lips placing light butterfly kisses on the side of her neck. “Sorry… I am being silly right now. I am just unsure about many things at the moment…”
She mentally frowned as he pushed her away again, just as they were getting into it. Milena opened her eyes once more, gazing into his as she tried to read his expression, peer into his mind and figure out what he was thinking—this man, his mind was a maze, and she was determined in solving it.
